Job Purpose

Reporting to Chief Financial Officer, the Financial Controller is primarily responsible for the end-to-end management of the company’s financial matters, ensuring all accounting, reporting and statutory obligations are met in a timely and efficient manner. The role will have ownership of the month-end and year-end processes, the annual budgeting and monthly forecasting cycle. This position also oversees the operations of Accounts Payable and Receivable, Payroll, and manages a small team of three, including Account Officer, Financial Accountant and Business Analyst. The Financial Controller will be the key business partner for all queries relating to financial management, and supports the CFO in a strategy development, business planning and leadership.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Balance sheet reconciliation to ensure the integrity and accuracy of data contained in the financial reports;
  • Month-end journal processing, financial accounting and reporting, including balance sheet, profit and loss, and cash flow statements;
  • General ledger maintenance;
  • Internal and external reporting;
  • Budgeting and forecasting;
  • Drafting and implementing finance related policies and procedures;
  • All taxation matters including company tax, payroll tax, BAS returns and FBT;
  • Asset accounting, capital expenditure, and WIP maintenance through the preparation and maintenance of the Fixed Asset register;
  • Cash flow management, projection and analysis;
  • Provide support to strategic projects;
  • Oversee the preparation of financial reports and information (both regular and ad hoc) for internal and external stakeholders
  • Monthly financial results evaluation, including any variances against budget and forecast;
  • Preparation of the annual report;
  • Internal and External Auditor liaison and auditing process coordination;
  • Oversee the functions of Accounts Payable, Receivable and Payroll;
  • Staff leadership and development

Required Qualifications

  • Qualified CPA or CA;
  • Supervisory and people management experience;
  • Well-developed Excel skills;
  • Understanding of financial modelling is a plus;
  • Sound knowledge of Accounting Standards and taxation regulations;
  • A strong understanding in financial management, internal control and risk management;
  • Demonstrated high-level experience in financial accounting, financial reporting, financial analysis, and public sector financial reporting;
  • Strong communication (written and verbal) and stakeholder management skills;
  • Experience in reporting and presenting to Board is a plus
  • Banking background is a plus

Work Conditions

This a full-time permanent role and is based in the company’s Melbourne Office. Working hour is Monday to Friday, 10am to 6pm. Flexible working arrangement may be available depending on individual situation, subject to the approval by management on a case by case basis.
