About the Company
Our client is a newly established Australian facade contractor backed by one of Asia’s major facade and curtain wall manufacturing groups.
With extensive offshore manufacturing capacity, along with substantial in-house design, engineering and production resources, the business provides full-package facade design, supply and installation solutions to the Australian construction market.
This is a unique ground-floor opportunity to join an ambitious and well-capitalised business at the beginning of its Australian growth journey. You’ll have the opportunity to help shape local operations while benefiting from the technical expertise, manufacturing capability and resources of a major international group.
THE ROLE
We’re looking for a Design Manager to lead facade design coordination across our Australian project pipeline — from early tender through to live delivery. You’ll be the technical link between our Australian project teams, architects, consultants and builders, and our design and engineering teams in China.
We’re prioritising attitude and potential alongside a solid track record. The ideal candidate will bring around ten years’ construction industry experience, be curious, well-organised and proactive, and take ownership of problems through to resolution.
You’ll be supported by an experienced design and engineering network in China and given genuine responsibility early in your tenure, with a real investment in developing you quickly within the business.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Coordinate facade design development from concept through to construction across curtain wall, window wall, windows and sliding door systems
- Act as the technical bridge between the Australian business and design/engineering teams in China — bilingual coordination is essential
- Lead design meetings and workshops with architects, consultants and builders
- Coordinate technical requirements and resolve design discrepancies and clashes, working with structural, thermal and building services input
- Oversee compliance of design documentation against Australian standards (AS 2047, AS/NZS 4284, AS 1288, NCC/BCA)
- Lead front-end tendering — design development, system selection, cost input and technical documentation
- Manage shop drawing packages through to procurement, fabrication and installation, ensuring buildability and timely release
- Coordinate mock-ups, testing and site inspections to validate design outcomes
- Manage design documentation using CAD, Revit, Aconex and related platforms
- Own design deliverables and programme milestones across live projects
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
- Bilingual — Mandarin and English communication skill is preferred (essential, given day-to-day coordination with China-based design and factory teams)
- Around 10 years’ experience in the construction industry — facade-specific experience is highly regarded but not essential
- A qualification (or near-complete qualification) in Architecture, Building, Engineering, or a related design/construction discipline
- Genuine interest in facades, curtain wall or building envelope systems — prior exposure is a plus, but not required
- Working familiarity with CAD and Revit; willingness to build deeper proficiency in Aconex, Autodesk Construction Cloud and related tools
- A proactive, switched-on attitude — someone who chases answers, owns their mistakes and wants to learn fast rather than be told everything
- Confidence (or the willingness to build it quickly) engaging directly with architects, consultants and builders
- Comfortable working across time zones and cultures, coordinating closely with China-based teams
WHY JOIN
- Be part of establishing a new Australian business backed by one of China’s largest facade manufacturers
- Direct access to significant factory capacity, engineering expertise and design resources
- Real mentorship and a genuine growth path — this role is designed to develop into a senior design leadership position as you build experience
- Diverse role spanning tender, design and delivery — not a narrow desk job
- Opportunity for international travel, including visits to design and manufacturing teams in China
- The chance to help shape how design is delivered within a brand-new Australian business, rather than simply slotting into an established structure
