Our client is a Chartered Accounting firm, they provide excellence in strategic advice and business services. They are now looking for a Principal to join their team.
POSITION OBJECTIVES
Principals, together with the partners, are the primary leadership group within the firm. As such, Principals can have a significant impact on the success of the firm, both directly and indirectly.
The principal role requires:
- Strong leadership skills
- Technical competence to an appropriate level
- Commercial acumen (including ingenuity and new ideas)
- The ability to attract and retain new work
- Commitment to clients, staff, the firm and its core values
- A strong work ethic
One of the key objectives in this role is growth in accordance with agreed KPIs. Principals are expected to contribute to the growth of the firm both through the provision of additional services to existing clients, whether personally or by internal referral, and winning new clients.
It is also a key objective of this role that the Principal be recognised by peers and subordinates as a leader within the firm and as having values consistent with the firm’s core values. This involves leadership by example, encouragement of teamwork with all staff, and a genuine commitment to best practice and the improvement of the firm’s business.
The position requires superior written and verbal communication skills as direct dealings with members of the firm and clients are an important part of the role.
This role can be separated into the following distinct functions:
- Compliance/client service management;
- Training & development of staff
- Business management and taxation advice to clients of the firm (within your client portfolio);
- Review of income tax returns and financial accounts for clients of the firm (within your client portfolio);
- Review of special accounting and taxation matters for clients of the firm (within your client portfolio);
- Assistance with management of team;
- Assistance with management of team workflows and specific tasks;
- Assistance with divisional administration;
- Embracing and augmenting the firm’s culture.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES
-Training & development of staff

EXPECTED PROFILE OF THE PERSON IN THE POSITION:
- Has completed a graduate degree in accounting or business
- Has completed the necessary studies to earn the title of CPA or CA
- Depth and breadth of experience (both professional and technical)
- Has had a least seven years’ experience working in a public practice firm, including the management of a client portfolio and a comprehensive understanding of taxation issues
- Has experience in designing and presenting technical taxation sessions to staff
