The Business Development Manager will work to improve our market position and achieve financial growth. This person will build key customer relationships, identify business opportunities, negotiate and close business deals and maintain an extensive knowledge of current market conditions. This person will increase sales opportunities and thereby maximize revenue for the company. The Business Development Manager will also help manage existing clients and ensure they stay satisfied and positive.

Responsibilities & duties

Responsibility 1 –            New Business Development.

Work standard –

  • Prospect for potential new clients and turn this into increased business.
  • Work with Suppliers to identify opportunities and leads and utilise their expertise in converting these leads to sales.
  • Cold call as appropriate within our geographic area to ensure a robust pipeline of opportunities. This includes identified targets as well as visiting observed job sites.
  • Meet potential clients by growing, maintaining, and leveraging your network through builders and contractors.
  • Research and build relationships with new clients.
  • Identify potential clients, and the decision makers within that client organization.
  • Set up meetings with the potential client decision makers and our sales/operations teams.
  • Screens potential business deals by analysing the potential, deal requirements, and financials to determine if the deal should progress.
  • Close new business deals by coordinating requirements; developing and negotiating contracts; integrating contract requirements with business operations.

Responsibility 2 –            Existing Customer Retention.

Work standard –

  • Present new products and services and enhance existing relationships.
  • Work with technical staff and other internal colleagues to meet customer needs.
  • Assist with developing solutions and presenting these to the customer.
  • Identifying opportunities and solutions that will benefit both our customer and our businesses.
  • Ensure our existing base is protected from competitive approaches.

Responsibility 3 –            Management of Sales.

Work standard –

  • Submit regular progress reports and ensure data is accurate.
  • Ensure that data is accurately entered and managed within the company’s CRM or other sales management system.
  • Track and record activity on accounts and help to close deals to meet these targets.
  • Plan and Forecast sales targets and ensure they are met by the team.
  • Work closely with the Managing Director to ensure that all budgets are met.

Work experience & skills

  • Basic knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook
  • At least 3 to 5 years of experience in a sales rep, business development or sales management role.
  • Demonstrated ability to Network effectively, make use of market knowledge, present effectively and write clear and professional communications.
  • Demonstrated skills in sales including, Prospecting, Identification of Customer Needs and Challenges, managing and overcoming objections, Closing and Meeting Sales Goals.

Personal qualities & behavioural traits

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively at all levels within an organisation including Warehouse, Sales and Administration.
  • Demonstrated Persuasion Skills.
